Recently I created a video about being stuck on MacOS as a content creator. I felt sad, and ever since I made that video, Linux has been pulling me back harder with each passing day.
So I've been watching the new AMD chips like a hawk, and they were released today!
I intentionally waited until the reviews came out, and I'm glad I did. On YouTube, the reception has been moderate or negative, because the new CPU's are "only" 3-5% better than the past generation.
Yet for Linux, things look very different. Here the gain is almost 20% overall!
"When taking the geometric mean of all the raw performance results, the Ryzen 9 9950X came out to being 17.8% faster than the Ryzen 9 7950X. The Ryzen 9 9900X meanwhile was 21.5% faster than the Ryzen 9 7900X across this wide mix of workloads."

Also, very interstingly, in the video below, the reviewer actually noticed some games being BETTER ON LINUX while running in Proton?!
My friends, perhaps this means a new era of the Linux desktop.
It certainly does for me, with these results I feel confident that I can build a setup where it is possible to do my screen recording and creative work, and I get a beefy server to run staging clusters and AI workloads to boot.
I'm blowing some savings and building a PC!
Arch Linux
When all my parts arrive, I will be documenting the entire process of building up my new Arch Linux system, and I’m going to use this as an opportunity to dive into the Linux fundamentals. By taking this journey as a guideline, I will take deeper dives into the topics as we encounter them while creating the system. I’ll be covering managing packages, users, permissions, networking, encryption and security. It’s going to be a fun ride!
If this sounds interesting to you, you might like my community which you can find here. It’s a great place to network with like-minded individuals who are all interested in productivity, Linux, DevOps and Kubernetes.
Have a wonderful week,
